Hardtack and Coffee
Published in Hardcover by Time Life (January, 1983)
Author: John Davis Billings
Average review score:

A feel for the time.
Filled with wit and graceful observations. Terrific! Detailed account of what it was like to be a soldier in the Civil War by one who actually WAS a soldier in the Civil War. Reenactors, who are getting to be an overweight and lazy lot, should read this and make it their Bible.

Enjoyable read start to finish!
I haven't read a book in a long time that I actually really enjoyed every chapter. Biling's doesn't confuse the reader with battlefield strategy or complicating the obvious. He doesn't reflect on battle scenarios with upmost detail after 20 years either. This is a great book for anyone looking to learn about daily soldier life. Bilings captures the daily grind and life of being a Federal soldier while offering humor and straight forward realities that get the mind ticking. The stories make truth stranger than fiction and is a welcomed charge of quick information. It is easy to suggest this book to younger readers as well as the information is clean, concise and well written. I would definately recommend this book for all as many ages can benefit from this educational and entertaining book of soldier life.

Civil War from the soldier's point of view
There are numerous histories of the Civil War and some have become classics. Most of these focus on battles and great heroes. Billings, however, a Civil War veteran, writes about the daily life of the average soldier. We learn about the soldier's motivation to fight, camp discipline, diet, housing, medical care, recreation and just about everything else that comprised the life of the Civil War era soldier. Billings' book is serious yet he manages to write in a lighthearted tone, replete with levity. This is a great book to round out a Civil War buff's study of the great conflict.

Milton's Marilyn: The Photographs of Milton H. Greene
Published in Hardcover by Schirmer/Mosel (November, 1998)
Authors: Milton H. Greene, James Kotsilibas-Davis, and Joshua Greene
Average review score:

The best photography of Marilyn Morone
We've seen enough pictures of Marilyn Morone, but this book unveils some of the rarely-seen backstage and real life pictures of Marilyn taken by her favorite photographer Miller Grenne. In addition to her normal sexy appearence, Marilyn looked natural, stunning and relaxed in these pictures. A must buy for Marilyn fans!

BEWARE OF THE DIFFERENT SIZED EDITIONS!!
OK. This book is really magnificent. Alone the cover and the back cover are to frame. The Black Sitting is indeed breathtaking and belong on billboards.
However you want to be aware that there are different editions of this book. This one is a tiny hardcover edition, very small. I don't know why it was made. The regular one was a regular sized coffee table book, of around 10 inches height. It looks as though this may be out of print.

MILTON'S MARILYN: THE PHOTGRAPHS OF MILTON H. GREENE
As the previous reviewers commented, I found this book to be a superlative photo album of one of America's foremost photographers. Mr. Green truly captured Marilyn Monroe's candid beauty. Green brought forth Monroe's innocence as well as her sensual and goddess like images through the lens of his camera. You see her playfully swimming and frolicking in a pool. You see her riding atop an elephant in Madison Square Garden, NY to help benefit Children's Charity. The closing photos in the book of her portrayal of Elsie Marina, in the Prince and The Showgirl and "Cherie" the "Chanteuse" in her first movie production of "Bus Stop" are memorable as well. I truly recommend this magnificent work for anyone who enjoys seeing a creative master photographer and the beautiful legendary Monroe.

Brilliant
This has to be the easiest and most simple way to learn HTML or to plane out enhance your site I love this book so much I'm going to buy The Project Cool Guide to Enhancing Your Web Site so I can enhance the already wonderful website I made by reading this book.

Best bucks I've spent in a long time.
I bought this book for my homeschooled daughter to use as a html textbook. It took a few days (chapters 1 & 2 are background/basics), but once she reached chapter 3 she was hooked and has been spending hours at it each day. I am amazed at what she has learned--all on her own. Most books promise more than they deliver, but this book, with the marvelous web site practice area, delivers more than expected. I would highly recommend it to any beginner.

The best for the least
The Project Cool Guide to HTML is the greatest book I have ever seen about creating webpages. I have brought much more expensive books (upwards of $70.00), but they did not come close to giving me the understanding I gained from this title. It is written at an understandable level, and talks about some pretty cool things. It is also the cheapest HTML guide I have EVER seen. Well worth the money.

Jazz Cats
Published in Hardcover by Pelican Pub Co (October, 2001)
Authors: David Davis and Chuck Galey
Average review score:

Jazz Cats and New Orleans Flavor
This is a charming story of the "Jazz Cats" playing their music through out a New Orleans night. It is told in rhyme and each member of the band shows his musical talent. There is the hot piano kitty, Louise, and the leader of the band Broussard playing his clarinet, and old Grandpa Kitty blowing his horn. These and the rest of the jazz band play through the evening and the story follows them into the dawn as they walk home stopping at their favorite cafe along the way for a bite to eat and play a bit more jazz out on the lawn. The story ends in the park with the cats drapped asleep around the park bench waiting for the next nights gig.
The illustrations are delightful as the cats prance and strut to the music in their hip clothes set against lush backgrounds. The rhyme and art is felt through out the book and any child would enjoy this flavor of the south. They will hear the music blow out of the pages.

A rhythmic story told in verse about some real cool cats
Jazz Cats is a rhythmic story told in verse about some real cool cats that knowhow to entertain. Their New Orleans jazz combo plays together in the streets as these cats know how to have fun! David Davis' lively and entertaining picturebook story is brought vividly to live with the detailed artwork of Chuck Galey against such New Orleans backgrounds as Preservation hall, Cafe du Monde, and Jackson Square. Jazz Cats is an enthusiastically recommended addition to family, school, and community library picturebook collections for young readers.

Fun, Flowing -- Funky Jazz Cats!
I loved Jazz Cats. The rythmn could be felt on each page with the flow of the text and the wonderful illustrations. It helped me explain to my children the unique culture of New Orleans. Then we listened to some Kenny G and went to eat at Razoo's Cajun Restaurant!

Great Book

Messages: The Communication Skills Book
Published in Hardcover by New Harbinger Pubns (September, 1995)
Authors: Matthew McKay, Martha Davis, and Patrick Fanning
Average review score:

Very good book on communication
This book briefly discusses important aspects of communication; including proper listening and getting your message through without noises or communication blocks that hinder the communication process. Besides, it describes how to communicate with your mate, children and how to improve your assertiveness.

The discussion is concise, but the important aspects are very well discussed. This a very valuable book that should be read by everybody who has any concern about achieving a better communication.

Communication Skills Everybody Should Have
The authors have created a very in depth but easy to read psycho analysis of poor communication skills and ways for individuals to help themselves change their attitude and methods of communicating with others.

Listening is probably the most important skill of communication that most of people lack. Many do not even think of listening as communication. I was guilty of trying to ancticipate or guess what the other person was going to say, already working out my reactive answer and therefore not hearing the last half of the conversation. It takes a bit of self control and discipline to be able to really listen.

People have a habit of not coming to the point for fear of being rejected or hurting the other persons feelings. The person giving the message learns how to take the sting out of the message by not blaming or accusing but still being direct. It is a different way of wording your sentences but I was amazed at the way this technique can defuse a tense situation.

If you find that you are sometimes missunderstood or fear of the reaction from telling your boss, wife, girlfriend or work colleague what you really think, then I would highly recommend purchasing this book. It is a great book for everybody.

Simple but effective; good for all ages
This is a self-help book that cuts through all the big words and psychological concepts and gets immediately into helping you change. There is something for everybody here -- parents, teens, managers, and children. Their explanations of screwed up communication patterns are concise and their "solutions" are elegant. One of the few self-help books I have bothered to keep on my bookshelve. Worth every penny.

Tasha Tudor Cookbook
This is a fascinating lady and I have tried some of the recipes. All have been well liked by everyone who has eaten them. I would recommend this book as well as any other for adults and children alike. Her videos take you to another time and place - try them.

Will be a family heirloom cookbook.......
Do not let the whimsical dainty painting on the books cover make you think this is a book for children. It is in fact a book that adults will love. Especially those who love homesteading, simply living, family and friends.

Not only are the recipes wonderful but the author has included a dialogue on what makes the recipe one she likes but she also has done wonderful water colour paintings to accompany the recipes.

And the recipes are varied from Appetizers and Salads, to Soups, breads and muffins, Main dishes to desserts and beverages. It is a cookbook that will become a family heirloom.

Cooking, Memories and amazing Artwork.
Corgi Cottage, the memories, the recipes. All Tasha Tudor fans will want to add this book to their collection. Cookbook collectors must embellish their shelf with this book. Old recipes, simple delights and wholesome goodness jump from the pages of Tasha's beautifully designed cookbook. You'll feel the warmth of her kitchen and enjoy her easy cooking lessons.
